Maritime Operatinos Center performs the activities related to: monitoring and control of maritime traffic through VTMIS system, communications through the GMDSS equipment and radio service Barradio (VTMIS, MRCC, CRS) for the purpose of safety of navigation, safety of human lives and protection of marine environment from pollution; gathering of hydrographical, oceanographic and meteorological data and their radio transmission; radio service on navigable waterways for the purpose of maritime traffic and transmission of Notices to Mariners on the conditions on navigable waterways. 
Activities of the MOC Bar for the purpose of performing the duties within the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System and coverage of sea areas A1 and A2:

- Ensuring coordination during search and rescue operations at sea,

- Monitoring and control of maritime traffic in accordance with the VTMIS procedure,

- Ensuring coordination in cases of emergency response to marine pollution from vessels,

- Transmission of weather and navigational warnings,

- Transmission of weather forecasts and radio notices,

- Providing communication during medical assistance to ships “MEDICO”,

- Updating information on ships movements within “Adriatic Traffic Reporting System”,

- Radio-direction by Radio-direction finder in the VHF maritime area.

Control and Monitoring of Maritime Traffic Service uses state of the art sensors for tracking of ships including: solid state radars, VHF transceivers, meteorological stations, AIS base stations, Radio-direction finder and independent redundant link system. VTMIS sensors are located on Mavrjan, Black Cape (Crni rt) and Obosnik.

Vessel Traffic Service provided is IS (Information Service), and Coastal VTS is established to cover territorial sea area of Montenegro in accordance with the adopted Rulebook and internationally proclaimed VTS procedure.  

Control and Monitoring of Maritime Traffic Service, in order to promote safety of navigation and protection of sea from pollution from vessels, also includes the following activities:

1.          collection of data on maritime objects and maritime traffic,

2.          providing information to maritime objects,

3.          providing navigational advice and support during navigation to maritime objects.

Maritime Search and Rescue Subdivision, with its rescue teams and in accordance with the National Plan for Maritime Search and Rescue, organizes and conducts search and rescue operations at sea, emergency response in cases of search and rescue of persons and property and operations of mitigating the effects of pollution from vessels.

The Subdivision service operates with four fast rescue boats for emergency response as well as a catamaran for the support and a command boat within the SAR area which covers the internal sea waters, territorial sea and continental shelf. Also, Search and Rescue operations on the Lake of Skadar are conducted in collaboration with state institutions defined in the National Maritime Search and Rescue Plan.
